Frequently Asked Questions How do I join? There are several ways for you to join IABC. 1. Email info@iabcstl.org to request an application. 2. Call 314.416.2260 to request an application. 3. Download and fill out an application or e-mail the International Service Center at service_center@iabc.com to request an application. 4. Call the International Service Center at 415.544.4700 to request an application or join over the phone. What are the benefits of membership? Benefits of membership are numerous. The St. Louis Chapter provides the following benefits: 1. Access to information and resources to stay in tune with the communications field through monthly luncheon meetings and special workshops 2. Ability to meet and network with a diverse group of professionals in the local area 3. Opportunity to be recognized for communications work through the prestigious Bronze Quill Awards program 4. Enhanced leadership skills through many volunteer positions At the International level, you may enjoy the following benefits, in addition to the chapter benefits: 1. Information through the printed and online Communication World publication 2. Networking opportunities on the searchable online directory 3. Education at the International Conference with peers from around the world 4. Professional development features a wide variety of resources that offer guidance and insight from top communication practitioners What are the dues? The total dues for a St. Louis Chapter member is US$274, which includes dues for international, district and the St. Louis Chapter. There is a one-time application fee of US$40. A reinstatement fee of US$40 is charged when the membership has lapsed by more than one month. When is the next meeting? Link to calendar page for information on the next chapter meeting. How is the chapter affiliated with International? The International offices for IABC are located in San Francisco. When you join IABC, you automatically become a member of both International and the St. Louis Chapter. International membership connects you to more than 12,000 communicators around the world. The St. Louis Chapter serves as your local connection in the communications field to nearly 150 professional communicators. IABC International relies on its chapter structure to serve the local needs of each member. However, as a member of IABC, you are entitled to all of the benefits at the international level, including an online database of all 12,000 plus members. Currently, there are more than 12,000 members that belong to IABC International and 170 that belong to the St. Louis Chapter. What are the volunteer opportunities within IABC? There are many ways to get involved in IABC/St. Louis. Please link to the volunteer page for the most current information. In addition, there are opportunities to serve as the district and international levels. Please email a board member for more information. How do I update my profile information? The easiest way to ensure that your information is updated at both the International and chapter level is to do two things. 1. Email the St. Louis chapter at info@iabcstl.org or call 314.416.2260. 2. Visit www.iabc.com. Go to the members section and login. Check the "update membership" bullet and edit your profile online. You may also call 800.776.4222. Can I participate in IABC as a non-member? Yes, you may attend an IABC event as a non-member; however, you will be paying more to do so. You will miss out on the IABC network opportunities, leadership and volunteer opportunities within the organization, and key resources that may assist you in your daily job.
